Laptop Dead or Did Not Charge

So you charged your laptop all night only to find out that it will not turn on, or turns on and has next to no battery?

Surprisingly this happens more often than you would think. More often this happens because the computer is not completely asleep or turned off when you close the computer's lid. What happens is the computer does not know what to do so it will not do anything. This includes charging the computer.

Solutions:

So then how do you avoid this? Simple, you need to do one of 2 things. Either make sure that the computer is actually shut down/asleep fully before closing the computer lid. Or charge the computer while the computer is on and open.

  • Sleep: When your computer is fully asleep the screen is completely off and if you look at the power status light (This is the light behind the power button) it will turn on and off like the light is "breathing". Once this has happened the device is in a state where it can shut the laptop and as well accept a charge.

  • Shutdown: When your computer is fully shut down the screen is completely off and when you look at the power status light (This is the light behind the power button) it will be off and stay off. Once the light is off then the device is ready to shut the lid and as well take a charge.

  • Keep the computer on and open while charging: If you prefer to make sure that the device gets a charge before putting it away for the night. Simply plug the device in while it is open and on. This will allow the device to take a charger and get to 100%.
